Ala Muku Vacation Rentals invites you to enjoy a beautiful resort experience. Our condo is situated within the prestigious seventy acre Poipu-Kai Resort on the South shore of Kauai. It is just a short walk through the beautiful tropical grounds to Shipwreck Beach or Poipu Beach Park (a snorkeler's paradise). The resort has nine tennis courts (small court fee). There is a shop for all your tennis needs, including rentals. After the game relax in one of the Jacuzzi spas or swimming pools. You can barbecue your "catch of the day" in one of the well maintained grills near the pool.

Accommodations: This beautiful, airy condominium (approximately 1,000 square feet of living space) is furnished as a complete vacation home. Lofty beamed ceilings accent the living area with its two sitting areas and comfortable dining alcove. The surrounding greenery lends a peaceful air.

  • Our "Hale" (home) features a master bedroom with king sized bed and a huge walk-in closet. Full tiled bath with large soaking tub/shower and granite counter and double sinks.
  • There are two comfortable lanais, one off the living room/dining area, and the other off the master bedroom. This affords you a choice of shade or sun as the day unfolds.
  •  The kitchen has a full-sized refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, range-oven, dinnerware, small appliances, and pots and pans.
  • There is a washer and dryer and extra linens.
  • Beach gear for your use includes beach towels, beach chairs & mats and sand toys.
  • Play N' Pack and inflatable single bed available upon request.
  • The home also features premium channel color TV, DVD and CD players, and high speed wireless internet access and private phones.
  • Each room has its own ceiling fan to augment the island's dependable, gentle trade winds.
  • Sip your morning coffee on the covered lanai and check out the waves for the day's surfing prospects, or watch the beautiful island sunsets over a glass of wine.

Kauai Beaches: Poipu Kai resort fronts on two well known beaches... Shipwreck Beach and Brennecke Beach, each an excellent bodysurfing beach. Next to Brennecke beach is Poipu Beach Park, rated the best beach in North America for four years running. It features a sheltered "baby beach" for toddlers and parents, a fully equipped children's playground, and a great snorkeling and swimming beach with every variety of tropical fish usually only seen in aquariums. Surfing is also an excellent option at Poipu Beach with a surf shop and board rentals just across the street from the beach. Try paddle boarding, it's the latest sensation!

Kauai Golf:  There are two championship 18-hole courses available near the resort: The Kiahuana Golf Course and the prestigious Poipu Bay Resort course. Guests need to arrange with the individual courses for tee times. Within driving distance are several other courses in Princeville, Kalaheo, and Kapa'a.

Kauai Restaurants: Brennecke's restaurant is a great place for lunch or dinner at the beach; good burgers, fish and drinks. They have a great crab meal for dinner. Don't forget Lapperts' ice cream for a real treat. It's fresh made in Hanapepe and definitely a landmark destination. They are located throughout the island: Hanapepe, Poipu (just a couple of miles from the house),Kapa'a, Princeville, Hanalei, etc.

When you want to get dressed up and go to a really nice restaurant there are three to choose from at the Hyatt resort that are definitely world class. It's just East down Poipu Rd. about 3/4 of a mile from the condo. Incidentally getting dressed up in Kauai for a guy entails a nice pair of shorts and a breezy Hawaiian shirt and sandals. The ladies usually wear something slinky and cool with heels. Get her a nice lei for the occasion (in Koloa at the Big Save or the Blue Orchid Floral shop). We really enjoy the Hyatt's Ilima Terrace restaurant (especially Sunday brunch), but there are two others just as nice: Dondero's (fine Italian food), and Tide Pools (Seafood). They also have a wonderful island Luau once a week complete with Hawaiian entertainment. After dinner take a slow stroll around the grounds. The Hyatt continually gets awards for the beauty of its resort. Check out the torch lighting ceremony and the Hula show at the Seaview Terrace evenings around 6:00. The ladies may want to take advantage of the Anara Spa. It's open to the public and they offer wonderful massages, facials, exercise classes, etc. There also is a very nice Restaurant called Merriman's in the new Kukui'ula Shopping Village just down the street.

Island activities: For the shoppers there are some very nice boutiques in the Poipu Village shopping center just West on Poipu Road. There are also boutique shops at the surrounding resorts, e.g., Hyatt, Sheraton and the Marriott. Food shopping is nearby at the Big Save supermarket in Koloa, just a couple of miles up the bypass road. If you are energetic and want some exercise Kauai offers a great series of hikes and drives, some with breathtaking views. Try the hike along the beach and cliffs east past the Hyatt. It is about 4 miles and the reward is a wonderful white sand beach. There is a spectacular hike/drive up the Waimea Canyon (the grand canyon of the Pacific). At the end of the road hike the trail about 4 miles which will take you to a lookout over the Na Pali Coast. Also refer to the Kauai Guide Book located in the house for more fun things to do.

For helicopter rides try Jack Harter: www.helicoptors-kauai.com. There is a great boat tour with www.HoloHoloCharters.com. The zipline tour up in Princeville is one that you will never forget, try it-you'll like it: www.adventureskauai.com

Comments From Recent Guests

"Lush well maintained gardens engulf this home away from home. Spacious feeling with the cathedral ceiling and open layout. Nice granite counters in the kitchen made it feel just like home. Wash/dryer combo was a real plus. About a 100-150 yards to the beach with a bit of a view from the deck. Home was clean and well kept. Well stocked kitchen, walk in closet and great owners. Location close to everything yet far enough away to be quiet. Happy hour at Keoki's great food and prices - calamari best I've ever had! Homemade pastries and French press coffee - amazing! - at Koloa Coffee. Mahalo to Julianna and Jim for managing this fabulous property."

My husband and I had a great vacation, and the location of this condo is ideal! It's very comfortable, clean and overall we were very happy with everything from the ease and communication with the owners, check in/out, and it was a great unit in a really nice complex. We would highly recommend it, and would definitely come back and stay there again. We love Kauai, and staying in a condo like this is so much more comfortable than staying in a hotel. The unit is very close to the beach, which we enjoyed almost daily. We could walk to some really nice restaurants (Red Salt, Brennickes) Happy Hour at Kanapali Joes; and a very close drive to Josselins, Merrimans, Kolua Fish Market, etc. Great snorkeling in the area as well. We have been to the Big Island, but we love Kauai so much better. Thank you Jim and Cherry for making the accommodations so great!"

"We really enjoyed our stay in your condo. The reservation process was easy and the owners are very responsive. The directions from the airport were spot on and we were able to find our way with no problems. The condo is very nicely decorated and well maintained. The layout made for a very quiet stay. We particularly loved how close the beach and the pool was to our unit. During our stay we drove to the Waimea Canyon area, it was simply breathtaking! A must do for everyone visiting Kauai. We enjoyed our dinner at Merriman's, the downstair's location where no reservations are needed and more affordable. From their tables outside, we could see the beautiful sunset! We found dining at Kalapaki Joe's a disappointment! Even though it was walking distance from the condo, we do not recommend it. There are many other dining choices around where the food is fresh and there is aloha in the service. We would recommend getting a puka dog and lemonade at the Poipu Shopping Village. Their choices of mustard is outstanding!"

his condo far exceeded our expectations. We especially appreciated the adjacent reserved free parking and near-by pool. The grounds are beautifully maintained. We have also stayed on the east side of Kauai and much prefer the Poipu area - better beaches, less traffic, more relaxed atmosphere. We liked the Brennecke Beach Restaurant and 22 North Restaurant - both offer local fish dishes that are wonderful. Watched turtles surfing at Shipreck Beach.

"As you can see from the pictures, this condo is so nicely furnished, you feel as comfortable as in your own home. The kitchen was well supplied with all the tools that you need. Cleanliness of evrything was exceptional. The beach is only about a 5 to 7 minute walk away,. We walked almost every morning about 1 1/4 miles along the beach, then through the trees to Poipu shopping center for our morning coffee at Starbucks. We also made good use of the two swimming pools and one hot tub on the property. Wish we could have styed longer."

My wife and I spent two weeks in Kauai. We split the island into a north stay and a south stay. For the south we found this wonderful condo and the owners Jim and Juliana made leasing an enjoyable experience. The maps they gave me were right on and took us to the door step. The first impression of the condo area is lush, green and well cared for. The grounds and flowers are awesome. Going in the 2nd floor abode my first thought was going into a classy art gallery. The decor is perfect for this place.... good art p[pieces, well placed, and not overdone. In fact the entire home was well placed and not overly done...perfect. There's two patios on off the living room and one off the bed room. Look closely at their" living room" picture and you'll see the dining room table,,,,behind it is the patio set up for dining. Why in the world would any one want to sit inside when they can dine in the flowering tree tops with some exotic bird singing (Not the wild roosters we found in the north). The bedroom patio had more flowers and a great view of the pool,, our breakast location. This place is spacious. and a great headquarters for walking to the beaches.though the manicured grounds and flowers They have toys for our use provided. The National Botanical Garden 10 min, Waimea canyon 40 minutes, views of Na Pali 45 minutes.... try the Honopu Ridge trail for the most outstanding view above Honopu arch and the Na Pali coast that you can find on the island. It's hard to find, not on most maps, maintained by locals and not for weenies. Drop dead gorgeous.( get the" Kauai Revealed" app for your smart phone 6 bucks. it has the trial and everyting else you'll need to find) Rent this condo and soak up the south shore!
